There are guests, there are guest chefs and there are guest star chefs. On July 26th, Mélisse will feature chef April Bloomfield of New York City's The Spotted Pig, who would come under the latter category, in an event the restaurant is calling “Michelin Mashup: Cooking with Friends.”

Bloomfield rose to fame in her native England before joining up with Alice Waters at Berkeley's Chez Panisse. She now runs the kitchen at The Spotted Pig, which has earned one Michelin star for the last five consecutive years. Mélisse (2 Michelin stars) chef-owner Josiah Citrin met Bloomfield at a recent event in Melbourne, Australia, and it was there the mashup began to formulate.

Bloomfield will create a five-course prefixe meal alongside Citrin, with chef Ray Garcia of Fig chiming in on the night's second course of stuffed squid. Citrin will serve an amuse bouche of wild Japanese kampachi and the main course of prime New York strip loin and short rib, while Bloomfield will create the first course, heirloom tomato gazpacho, along with the two middle courses of boudin blanc and Arctic char.

The event is priced at $150 before tax and gratuity, with $20 per plate going to support the Special Olympics. Reservations can be made at OpenTable.com, or by calling Mélisse at 310-395-0881. The Michelin Mashup will occur again on August 23rd in collaboration with chef David Kinch of Manresa (2 Michelin stars).
