A missing UC Berkeley student who had been partying near USC was determined to be the same young man who was fatally struck on the eastbound 10 freeway not far from the Los Angeles school, authorities said today.

The Los Angeles County Department of Coroner determined that the man who had been fatally struck on the 10 near Vermont Avenue over the weekend was indeed 19-year-old Eloi Vasquez, according to an afternoon announcement from the Los Angeles Police Department.

Vasquez was reported missing after he wandered off following a party in the 600 block of West 28th Street Saturday, police said. He had been with friends when he walked away at 1:30 a.m., they said.

His parents, who said his phone went dead that morning, offered a $100,000 reward for information leading to his location.

The 10 freeway collision was reported at 2:25 a.m. Saturday, police said. An LAPD spokesman told us that it was not a hit-and-run, and that the driver was not cited.

The LAPD says:

The family is understandably very distraught and has respectfully asked for privacy.
