Woman Pronounced Dead and Several Injured After Head-On Collision near Jones Boulevard

LAS VEGAS, NV (April 27, 2023) – On Tuesday afternoon, Mirta Curbelo lost her life in a multi-car crash on Desert Inn Road. The incident happened around 2:30 p.m. near Jones Boulevard. Per reports, multiple vehicles were involved in the deadly accident. A 2005 Nissan Titan driver traveling westbound in the second of three travel lanes on the way to Desert Inn when for unknown reasons tried to change lanes and lost control of the car. As a result, the Nissan collided with the back of a Honda Civic, resulting in a series of collisions at the intersection. The Nissan then kept going southwest, crossing the Desert Inn center median. A Tesla then swerved to avoid a collision but also collided with the median. The Nissan continued on, colliding with the front of a 2010 Ford Flex. Responding officials arrived and declared the female passenger of the Ford dead from her injuries. Police later identified the victim as Mirta Curbelo, 73, of Las Vegas. Paramedics rushed the 63-year-old Nissan driver and all five occupants in the Ford to University Medical Center. While four others in two other vehicles also sustained unspecified injuries. At this time, police ruled out impairment as a factor in the multi-car crash, however, an active investigation is still ongoing.
