Over the years, this annual event has evolved from an intramural celebration for dance-community insiders into a public display showcasing the range and depth of local terpsichorean talent. As when chefs cook for other chefs, special things happen onstage when the audience brims with other dancers. This year, the sponsoring Dance Resource Center has assembled troupes covering the L.A. dance landscape: Media City Ballet; cutting-edge Lux Aeterna with Kujo; urban salsa from Contra-Tiempo; Jacques Heim’s ever-inventive Diavolo Dance Theater; the Colburn Dance Institute, directed by Glenn Edgerton and Leslie Carothers Aroma; and tapper Channing Cook Holmes, with a tribute to the late Alfred Desio. Companies active for more than 25 years (there are more than you’d think) will be honored, and awards will be presented in performance, choreography and technical categories. (In full disclosure, the awards include one to this reporter for raising the visibility of dance.) Alex Theater, 216 N. Brand Blvd., Glendale; Sun., May 6, 5 p.m.; $45 & $25, $15 students & seniors.
