23-Year-Old Woman Killed, 4-Year-Old Child Injured in Pedestrian Collision near River Street

SANTA CRUZ, CA (August 8, 2022) – Thursday morning, Midori Montalvo was killed and a child was hurt in a pedestrian crash on Highway 1.

The incident occurred around 12:45 a.m., near River Street. Emergency crews responded to the scene shortly after on August 4th.

According to the Santa Cruz Police Department, Montalvo and her 4-year-old daughter were walking in the intersection when they were struck by a northbound vehicle.

Upon impact, the driver of the vehicle stopped and and cooperated with the investigation. Meanwhile, medics pronounced 23-year-old Montalvo dead while her 4-year-old sustained various injuries.

Following preliminary investigations, police do not believe that the pedestrians were walking within a designated crosswalk. Crews also say alcohol or impairment does not seem to be the factor of the crash.

At this time, an active investigation to determine further details is still currently underway. Once available, more information will be released.
