Fruit isn't at the forefront of SoCal denizens' minds as we confront the wind, rain, and relative cold. But TreePeople is always looking forward to sunnier times ahead.

Today at the L.A. Medical Center Farmers' Market at Barnsdall Art Park, the local tree-peddling organization will give away 150 free fruit trees while supplies last from noon until 6 p.m., rain or shine. Available types include apple, apricot, peach, nectarine, plum, and miscellaneous citrus to low-income residents, and the trees on hand can be grown in a variety of environments that require little space. (We're not sure, however, if a copy of your tax return is actually required to get folks on the road to homegrown harvested goodness.) Julian and Carol Pearce of Soledad Goats will be around today to talk all good things goaty, too.
