69-Year-Old Man Pronounced Dead after Wrong-Way Collision near Pines Road

SPOKANE, WA (November 30, 2022) – Saturday afternoon, Michel Newcomb was killed and the Swain family was hurt in a 2-car crash on Trent Avenue.

Just before 2:30 p.m., police responded to the scene near Pines Road.

Per reports, Daniel Swain was driving a westbound 2019 Chevrolet Silverado towards Pines Road when he crossed into oncoming traffic. There, he struck a 2006 Ford Explorer, driven by Newcomb.

Medics arrived and pronounced 69-year-old Newcomb, of Spokane Valley dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, paramedics transported 60-year-old Daniel and his passengers, 53-year-old Jennifer Swain, 20-year-old Jessica Swain, and 18-year-old Callie Swain to a hospital. Crews say two of the injured parties were in critical condition.

Investigators closed off the eastbound lanes of Trent Avenue during cleanup and preliminary duties. Once available, further details will be provided.
