To say that volleyball is the fastest-growing sport in the world might actually not be mere flackish hyperbole: As diets change over time around the world, legions of kids are growing more and more, eventually standing taller than their ancestors. It's why doorways in old homes tend to be shorter — and why biblical tales of giants are just as much a matter of forced perspective. To get to the bottom of this, you might want to hear from Michael O'Hara, a member of the U.S. indoor volleyball team when the sport debuted at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. He'll be reading from his book, Volleyball: Fastest Growing Sport in the World. A handy guidebook to the sport, it includes the history and rules of the game — it's not just that part of PE we want to avoid anymore! But is it the sport that will finally usurp sand soccer — or the WNBA? Stay tuned, sports fans!
