On the morning of February 4, Michael John Baldwin was discovered shot dead and slouched over behind the wheel of a car on the 5500 block of Margaret Avenue.

The 34-year-old man was shot several times, according to coroner's records.

Shortly after the murder, LAPD officials blocked off the area as a crime scene to investigate.

It was reported later by the Los Angeles Times that the Lexus IS300 Baldwin was found dead in was stolen in West Los Angeles two weeks prior to the death.

Officials said there were no leads into who shot Baldwin at the time of killing.

The Weekly's Dennis Romero later reported Baldwin was a well-known surfer in the Venice community known as “Frosty.” Baldwin was also featured in a photo in Romero's 1996 piece about Venice surf-meets-street fashion.
