59-Year-Old Rider Dies in Fatal Motorcycle Crash on State Route 1

SANTA CRUZ, CA (April 26, 2021) – Saturday evening, Michael Fertig was struck and killed in a motorcycle accident on State Route 1.

The fatal accident happened after 5:05 p.m., on April 17 on State Route 1 near Waddell Creek.

According to reports, a white Subaru struck and rear-ended a Harley Davidson along the road.  As a result of the collision, the rider was ejected from his motorcycle.

Due to the severity of his injuries, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials identified the rider as 59-year-old Michael Fertig.

Meanwhile, rescuers found the driver of the Subaru, Liza Skrzynecki, 59, of Los Gatoswith minor injuries but refused treatment.

Skrzynecki, on the other hand, was not arrested. Neither alcohol nor drugs appear to have played a role in the crash, according to CHP.

No other details were available. However, authorities are now investigating the possible cause of the crash.
