75-Year-Old Bicyclist Fatally Struck in Deadly Collision near Highway 101

HUMBOLDT BAY, CA (March 31, 2022) – Wednesday afternoon, a bicycle collision on Herrick Avenue left 75-year-old Michael Eagan dead.

The deadly incident occurred around 4:47 p.m., near the intersection of Highway 101 and Herrick Avenue.

For reasons under investigation, the driver of a passing vehicle struck the bicyclist in the area. Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics pronounced the victim dead.

Shortly after the crash, police officers shut down the freeway overpass and blocked Herrick Avenue.

Meanwhile, the Humboldt Bay Fire posted an advisory for motorists to avoid the area of Herrick Avenue between Highway 101 and Elk River Road for several hours.

Further factors surrounding the fatal accident are still under an active investigation as of the time.
