Man Delivering Groceries Killed in Deadly Car Accident on Encinitas Boulevard

ENCINITAS, CA (November 10, 2021) Michael Dougherty of Escondido, lost his life after a two-vehicle accident on Encinitas Boulevard.

The tragic crash happened around 7:00 p.m. November 4, on the 900 block of Encinitas Boulevard.

According to reports, Dougherty was driving out of an apartment complex onto Encinitas Boulevard in a 2007 Toyota Corolla. For reasons unknown, he came to a stop in the southbound lanes.

There, Dougherty was struck by a Toyota Tacoma. The pickup-truck driver attempted to stop but collided with the Corolla’s driver’s side door.

Following the incident, both cars came to a halt at the curb. Responding officers located Dougherty trapped inside the Toyota, and later declared him dead at the scene.

Authorities have not reported any other injuries from the crash.

At this time, Encinitas Police do not currently believe that drugs or alcohol were factors. However, an active investigation remains ongoing.
