32-Year-Old Man Pronounced Dead after Big-Rig Collision near C Street

GALT, CA (June 23, 2023) – Saturday afternoon, Michael Anthony Mendoza Jr. was pronounced dead after a semi-truck accident on Highway 99.

Police responded to the scene around 5:30 p.m., near C Street on June 3rd after receiving multiple dispatch calls in the area.

According to reports, the driver of a 2006 Infiniti sedan was traveling east on C Street towards Fairway Drive.

For reasons unknown, the Infiniti fell down an embankment onto the freeway where it collided with a passing semi-truck, causing the trailer to overturn. First responders located the big-rig blocking all southbound lanes of the freeway.

Despite life-saving efforts, medics pronounced the Infiniti driver dead at the scene. Authorities later identified the driver as 32-year-old Mendoza Jr.

In addition, crews say the semi-truck driver did not sustain any injuries. Following preliminary duties, it is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a factor.

At this time, an active investigation to determine further information is still currently underway. Once available, more details will be provided.
