40-Year-Old Man Killed in Fatal Accident near California Avenue

BAKERSFIELD, CA (June 4, 2021)Monday night, 40-year-old Micah Jason Howard, was struck and killed by several vehicles on Highway 99.

Officers first responded on the northbound lanes just north of California Avenue around 11:09 p.m.

According to CHP, a pedestrian sprinted from the east shoulder across traffic lanes and into the path of a Jeep moving 70 mph. The Jeep then struck the pedestrian, who was then hit by multiple other vehicles.

Moreover, none of the drivers involved were under the influence of drugs or alcohol. It was unclear whether the pedestrian, whose identity was not revealed, was intoxicated.

Emergency responders temporarily closed the surrounding lanes for more than two hours. But, the roadway has since reopened.

At this time, an active investigation to determine further details remains ongoing.
