L.A.'s Metro transportation authority has tried hard to get middle class folk out of their cars and onto trains and buses. And still the system is used mostly by working class Latinos.

But we've always said that one way to transform an urban milieu is to start with nightlife. Downtowns change starting with the bars, clubs and restaurants (just look at San Diego).

Metro is starting to catch on. Following the success of its after-hours expansion of the Metro Rail and the Orange Line last month …

… Metro Silver Line bus service is getting the 2 a.m. treatment starting tomorrow night, the agency announced this week.

In fact, party people, it's more than 2 a.m. treatment. According to the agency the last departures from the San Gabriel Valley to downtown are at about 2. This thing will have a little breathing room after last call.

The Silver line takes you from the SGV to downtown and the South Bay, mostly along freeways.

So party on.

The Metro and Orange expansions were so popular that you begged for more. According to Metro:

Metro added extended service to the Silver Line due to the jump in late-night ridership since Metro Rail and the Orange Line began operating until 2 a.m. Keep these numbers up and we may one day end up with late-night service seven days a week!

Gosh, that would almost make us like a world class city.
