But if there's anyplace in America for Mercedes to launch its first teen driving school, it might as well be here:

The German carmaker says its debut Mercedes-Benz Driving Academy will open in October, according to a statement from Mercedes-Benz USA.
The company made the announcement this week at the California State PTA Convention in Long Beach. Way to market.

A statement from Alexander Hobbach, Mercedes' “senior manager of business innovation,” indicates it won't be cheap:
Mercedes-Benz feels there is opportunity to better prepare teens for today's driving conditions, and while our offering will have premium pricing over existing schools, we are dedicated to delivering significant value based on unique coaching methods and curriculum that is aimed at teaching new teens how to drive safely.
Wow. That's innovative. Charging kids to learn how to drive your cars, while getting them hooked early on those very cars. We need to start an LA Weekly literacy school.
And, hey, they're hiring “qualified driving instructors.”
Maybe Charlie Sheen could teach kids how a couple of his six-figure S Classes ended up down a Mulholland hillside.
And, of course, Spears could teach proper ingress and egress. Maybe that's not such a good idea.
