Random Thing Found on Internet – Part 1

Top 5 WTF “Carnival in Rio” Moments: a YouTube Scavenger Hunt

5. @1:17 “To Brazilians especially men…”
The moment this one pops out you know you're in for a trainwreck.

4. @2:13
Arnold WRT: “Favorite body part.” (Hint, hint… it's not the pectoral.)

3. @2:30 “But like everything else in Brazil…”
Woah, watch it with the innuendo there Carnivator.

2. @4:05 “I learned one word yesterday…”
I just Googled “punda,” and it's as bad as you think it should be.

1. @4:20 “Now I teach you some English…”
This needs no explanation. And you will never look at carrots in the same way again.

Shortly after he became an American citizen, Mr. Universe went to Brazil and the Internets reaped the bounty. When I first encountered this video my mind went into a kernel panic, I was shocked that the same guy who declared his allegiance to the [redacted] in 1983 was allowed to make present day legislative decisions (as a Republican none the less).

Every generation has a different “user experience” of Arnold's career; Schwarzi is the epitome of the American dream— the Boomers know him as Mr. Universe, Gen X knows him as Kindergarten Cop (“it's not a tumah…”) and Gen Y knows him as the Honorable Governor of the State of California. Schwarzenegger's sheer randomness and identity flux make him the real life version of an Internet meme; as one commenter put it “From a Nazi family to steroid abusing weightlifter to woman hating movie shill and now lying politician. The guy is [an]… American success story.” I mean check out the following seminal (in all it's connotations) quote from his opus “Pumping Iron”:

“It's as satisfying to me as, uh, [redacted] is, you know? As, ah, having [redacted] with a woman and [redacted]. And so can you believe how much I am in heaven? I am like, uh, getting the feeling of [redacted] in a gym, I'm getting the feeling of [redacted] at home, I'm getting the feeling of [redacted] backstage when I pump up, when I pose in front of 5,000 people, I get the same feeling, so I am [redacted] day and night. I mean, it's terrific. Right? So you know, I am in heaven” – Arnold Schwarzenegger

What is remarkable (and ultimately a testament to Schwarzenegger's drive and gumption) is that with its cinematography and lighting straight out of soft-core, “Carnival in Rio” would have killed off most people's chances of a political career. When viewed in light of harassment allegations and

general impropriety exemplified by some of the stunts in “Pumping Iron” this clip is especially painful to watch (@2:05 and

@3:30 are particularly rife with non-verbal secondhand embarrassment).

The video broke on YouTube before the California Recall Election but was not picked up by mainstream media – thus far it has not hit the million views benchmark requisite for most memes (in terms of page views “Sneezing Panda” and “Yelling at Cats” have proven more critical than the Carnivator to our pop cultural collective psyche). The real shock is that “Arnold at Carnival” failed to go viral in the way that something of this caliber truly deserves. Perhaps this is because from Leno to yours truly, people in the media like Arnold. As another

commenter noted “Arnold has 'it' charisma, free spirit, un-shakeable

optimism and big [eh hem heart].”

And if his platform on “punda” ends up taking off, he might even have a shot at President 😉
