Deadly Single-Car Crash on Westside Boulevard Left 1 Dead and 1 Injured

MERCED, CA (October 9, 2021) 19-year-old Meliton Gutierrez died and another injured in a single-car crash on Westside Boulevard on Wednesday.

The collision occurred at 4:00 a.m. on Westside Boulevard and Sultana Drive, just south of Livingston.

Investigators said a motorist traveling westbound on Westside Boulevard, west of Sultana Drive, swerved to the right onto the north dirt shoulder for unexplained reasons.

As a result, the vehicle flipped numerous times and collided with many trees, throwing the young driver and passenger into the road.

Officers arrived on the scene and pronounced the passenger deceased. Officials identified the victim as 19-year-old Meliton Gutierrez.

Meanwhile, medics rushed the driver to the hospital, where he is still in serious condition.

Officials said alcohol or drugs may also have been a factor. However, this crash remains under investigation.
