Traffic Collision on Highway 135 Left Two Fatalities

ORCUTT, CA (July 8, 2022) – A car crash on Highway 1 claimed the lives of Melisa Michelle Gonzalez-Bautista and Hermilo Vasquez-Mendez, Saturday evening.

According to authorities, the collision happened around 10:17 p.m. on Highway 1 just north of Highway 135 near Orcutt.

Furthermore, investigators said a northbound Honda Civic collided with a Nissan Sentra at the intersection of State Route 135.

Afterwards, the Honda driver exited his vehicle and was struck by an approaching GMC Yukon.

Unfortunately, two people died at the scene and two others, including a pedestrian, sustained moderate injuries.

Later on, the authorities identified the deceased victims as 18-year-old Melisa Michelle Gonzalez-Bautista and 41-year-old Hermilo Vasquez-Mendez.

No further details about the crash have been released at this time. Authorities will post updates once made available.

An active investigation is currently underway.
