Beginning Wednesday, May 17, Beverly Grove’s cozy neighborhood Melanie Wine Bar will launch the Melanie Burger daytime lunch program offering a selection of smash burgers and sides.

Chef Jorge Simental’s lunch menu will include offerings like the Melly, with a single patty, pepper jack cheese, arugula, onion jam, melaioli and pickles on a potato roll, available Monday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., for dine-in, take-out and delivery.

“Melanie Burger is a throwback brand,” owner Andy Paxson tells L.A. Weekly.  “You’ll be served out of a sack lunch bag with your name on it. It’s a five-item menu. No secret code words or Instagram moments. Just real restaurant people making real food.”

“We had put the Melanie Burger on the dinner menu and soon into that we had a guest tell us it was the best burger he ever had,” says Paxson who also co-owns Sushi Note.” It was kind of a light bulb moment. I had been wanting to bring a lunch option to Melanie and the smash burger was such an obvious option.  Burgers have always played a huge role in the SoCal restaurant scene. I remember being a young guy new to L.A. in the late ‘90s and going into Father’s Office in Santa Monica and just loving their burgers and drafts. It was awesome.  I thought it was so cool that they stood behind what they did and did it well. They kept it small and sincere. I’ve always appreciated those places that cared like that in our industry. We want to put a real good product out to real good people and let it happen naturally. It feels right in line with the Melanie experience.”
