Locked in a dead heat with Jerry Brown, gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman is looking for a shot of adrenaline from this weekend's Republican Party convention in San Diego.

But the convention could be dominated by friction between Whitman and the party base on immigration. As the San Francisco Chronicle reports, conservative activists will push for a resolution endorsing the Arizona immigration law.

Whitman is opposed to the law, and has taken heat for that position from everybody from John and Ken on down.

The Chronicle reports that Whitman will make a speech at the convention on Friday night, but after that she's outta there.

That means she won't be in the building when the pro-Arizona resolution is taken up.
