Los Angeles is filled with artistic and theatrical-minded people who care more about an old consignment-shop T-shirt or a tattered Silver Surfer comic book than about a high school football game or prom. And, honestly, back in high school, most of us probably were nerds. We were the kids who actually read the poetry books and the novels in class. We were the ones who were outcasts, ridiculed during recess. We were the ones sitting at the lunch table discussing art and maybe even math while some ass-wad threw a rolled-up piece of paper at our table. But now we have left our hometowns, escaping the tyranny of small-mindedness. So fuck you, bullies. And tonight at Vroman's Bookstore, all us nerds who are now successful can congregate for the group event of the anthology Dear Bully: 70 Authors Tell Their Story. This deeply personal collection reaffirms the widespread abuse of bullies and features 70 of today's top teen authors. The stories are filled with tales from the points of view of observers, predators and victims. The night will feature Cecil Castellucci, Nancy Holder, Amy Goldman Koss, Melodye Shore and Lisa Yee. And this night just goes to prove that nerds are taking over the world. Vroman's Bookstore, 695 E. Colorado Blvd., Pasadena; Wed., Nov. 9, 6 p.m.; free. (626) 449-5320, vromansbookstore.com.
