Homemade pizza enthusiasts are an admittedly strange breed, prone to building do-it-yourself brick ovens, firing up their ordinary ovens on self-cleaning mode, experimenting with no-knead dough recipes or importing water from Brooklyn for crust authenticity, but they usually don't resort to larceny to further their craft. Hawthorne Mayor Larry Guidi, however, seems to be an exception. Guidi was charged yesterday with stealing a commercial food mixer, allegedly because his own mixer couldn't handle the volume of pizza dough he needed for his home pizza oven.

Instead of grabbing a commercial mixer from a local pizzeria, Guidi — age 52 and mayor for the last 17 years — stole one from his local school district, where he worked as a warehouse operations manager. Guidi was charged with felony second-degree burglary and grand theft. If convicted, he faces up to three years in state prison. No word on whether the state prison has a pizza oven.
