Mayor Eric Garcetti's official city vehicle struck a pedestrian in downtown Los Angeles today, the mayor's office said.

A spokeswoman told us the vehicle involved was the one the mayor normally rides in with a police detail. In a statement the mayor's office said it was “a Los Angeles Police Department vehicle in which Mayor Garcetti was a passenger.”

A woman was hit, LAPD Officer Bruce Borihahn told the Weekly:
]
She was “transported in good condition,” he said.

It happened at 12:20 p.m. at Second and Spring streets, the mayor's office stated. The mayoral vehicle was headed east on Second when it happened, according to the statement:

Mayor Garcetti was on the phone and did not witness the incident. He has since been interviewed by LAPD investigators.

The officers accompanying the mayor (the office usually comes with a detail that includes two cops) called for additional police as well as paramedics, who rushed to the scene.
Garcetti had this to say about the woman who was struck.

I'm very concerned about her and wish her a speedy recovery. I look forward to speaking with her soon.

A spokeswoman for the mayor said it wasn't immediately clear how the accident happened.
