Mayor Eric Garcetti's top spokesman, Yusef Robb, is leaving City Hall. In a memo to the mayor's staff on Friday, chief of staff Ana Guerrero said that Robb is leaving “to pursue other opportunities.”

Robb is one of several mayoral staffers whose tenure with Garcetti stretches back to Garcetti's time on the City Council. He joined the council office in 2010. Before that, he had worked as a press aide to Mayor Jim Hahn.

In a memo to the staff, Garcetti called Robb “one of the finest communicators and strategists I have ever known.”

“While I will miss seeing his fine suits, ample hair product, and hearing his dry wit every day at City Hall, I look forward to many more years of collaboration together,” Garcetti wrote.

Robb could be disciplined and terse, preferring to communicate in carefully worded emails. This did not endear him to the City Hall press corps, who dubbed him “Useless Robb.” In recent months, Robb was rumored to have clashed with Amy Wakeland, the mayor's wife.

Guerrero said in her memo that Robb will be leaving “over the next few weeks.” She did not mention a successor. Garcetti said he would continue to seek Robb's advice and that he will remain a member of the “Team Garcetti family.”
