Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti reportedly received his first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine on January 21, according to the Associated Press.

When the first doses of COVID-19 vaccines were distributed in Los Angeles, Mayor Eric Garcetti stated that he would not be “jumping any queue” and wait his turn in accordance to the L.A. Public Health phases.

“When they tell me I would normally get it, that’s when I’m going to get it,” Garcetti said on December 14, after watching the first group of medical staff receive the vaccine at Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center.

Garcetti has spent multiple days volunteering at the city-run vaccination site at Dodger Stadium, and was reportedly vaccinated at the site, at the recommendation of medical personnel.

“The medical personnel strongly recommended that he receive the vaccine, as they have recommended and provided for other field staff and volunteers at the site who have close contact with clients,” a statement from his office said.

As of this writing, Garcetti has not addressed why he did not disclose getting his vaccination, sooner.
