The shooting that took the life of a young man outside the Mayan nightclub in January turns out to have been pretty much about nothing.

And now cops want witnesses — there were plenty of you out there — to tell them who the two guys (at right) are who are believed to have been a part of the attack on 23-year-old Fernando Hernandez of Culver City.

They're even offering you cash:

L.A. city Councilwoman Jan Perry's office has put up a $50,000 reward for information leading to the capture of the two guys seen here.

The shooting happened on Jan. 28 when, cops tell the Weekly, two groups of patrons spilling out of two clubs, the Mayan and the Belasco Theater, bumped into each other and got into a fight.

One of the suspects went back to his car, got a gun, and opened fire, hitting four victims and ultimately killing Hernandez, who was shot in the head, according to an LAPD statement and comments to us from LAPD Det. Thayer Lake today:

All it was really was two groups of people who were out nightclubbing, it appears. It was a very benign incident outdside of a nightclub when it let out about 2:30, escalating into fist fight. And then suspect got a handgun and shot four people killing one.

A friend of the victim's family has told the Weekly that he was not a gang member.

Lake told us that gang affiliations didn't appear to spark the confrontation: Rather, it was probably a combination of alcohol and simply bumping into each other and exchanging words, Thayer said.
