The Los Angeles City Council on Wednesday was expected to settle several lawsuits that were brought against L.A. following the “May Day Melee” of 2007 in which Los Angeles police officers allegedly knocked down and roughed up bystanders, including members of the press, in MacArthur Park. The settlements would go to six people, but another four media personnel were continuing with separate suits against the city, which already paid out about $13 million in settlements related to the event.

Wednesday's payouts were expected to include about $250,000 for KCBS/KCAL cameraman Carl Stein; and about $50,000 each for former KTLA News reporter Ted Garcia, reporter Carlos Botifoll, cameraman Fernando Mejia, producer Elisa Rojas, and security guard Raad Elias.

Suits that are still pending include those brought by Fox 11 News reporter Christina Gonzalez, who was famously mowed down along with her camera operator (and who, ironically, is married to a Los Angeles police official), Fox 11 camerawoman Patti Ballaz, KPCC reporter Patricia Nazario and KTLA cameraman Thomas Mecozzi.
