Drunk Driver Arrested after Car Accident near Azalea Avenue

CHICO, CA (August 24, 2021) – Authorities arrested Maximilian Freels after a DUI crash on Cohasset Road that left a father and son injured.

Officers responded to the crash around 2:47 p.m., near the intersection of Cohasset Road and Azalea Avenue.

Upon arrival, the authorities discovered a Mazda 3 and a Dodge Charger at the scene with major damage. Per reports, Freels was driving the Charger at a high rate of speed and struck the Mazda.

Due to the impact of the crash, the Mazda was pushed into the oncoming lanes. In addition, the engine inside the Mazda became dislodged.

As a result of the crash, the Mazda driver sustained major injuries. Meanwhile, paramedics treated his 17-year-old son for minor injuries.

Paramedics later transported the injured driver of the Mazda to a Enloe Medical Center for further treatment.

Eventually, officials arrested and booked 23-year-old Maximilian Freels of Chico, for driving under the influence. In addition, officers also found a loaded weapon inside the vehicle.

Shortly after, Chico Officials transported Maximilian Freels to Butte County Jail with a bail amount of $81,000.
