Couple, Dog Fatally Struck near Basil Lane

SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA (December 1, 2022)Matthew Chachere and Jennifer Besser were killed in a pedestrian crash on Sacramento Drive.

The incident happened on November 21st, at around 5:30 p.m. when a 24-year-old driver struck two pedestrians and their dog while they were crossing the street. According to reports, the involved driver struck a stop sign, a curb, and a bridge.

Following the collision, officials found 39-year-old Chachere, 36-year-old Bessertheir and their dog dead on the 3400 block of Sacramento Drive near Basil Lane. Officers say the couple was walking their dog at the time of the crash. Meanwhile, the driver was assessed and was determined to not be driving under the influence.
