Mastodon performed at the Hollywood Palladium on Thursday, April 20, in front of a sold-out horde of rabid fans, many of whom were celebrating 4/20. Russian Circles started the night off with muscular instrumental metal, and Eagles of Death Metal performed a set of high-energy hard rock (including a cover of David Bowie's “Moonage Daydream”). However, the night ultimately belonged to Mastodon. The band's set list focused on their newest record, Emperor of Sand, but there were enough deep cuts from their seven-album discography to keep longtime fans satisfied.
