78-Year-Old Female Passenger Killed in Head-On Collision on Valley Center Road

VALLEY CENTER, CA (March 21, 2022) – Tuesday, Mary Ellen Plount was killed and two were seriously hurt in a head-on crash on Lilac Road.

The collision took place about a mile north of Valley Center Road around 5:50 p.m.

For reasons unknown, a 62-year-old man was driving an eastbound gray Lexus ES 350 sedan when he drifted into the westbound lane on Lilac Road. Consequently, the Lexus collided head-on with a Chevrolet Bolt driven by a 73-year-old man.

Due to the impact of the collision, medics transported a 78-year-old female passenger to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. However, crews pronounced Plount dead as she was in the ambulance.

Meanwhile, paramedics transported both drivers to Palomar Medical Center with major but non-life-threatening injuries.

A preliminary investigation revealed that drugs or alcohol did not play a role in the crash. Although, further circumstances leading up to the collision are currently being investigated.
