Cyclist Fatally Struck in Hit-and-Run Collision near Cactus Road

ADELANTO, CA (August 10, 2022) – Saturday night, Marty Sparling was fatally struck in a hit-and-run bicycle accident on US Highway 395.

The incident occurred around 10:21 p.m., near Cactus Road. Emergency crews responded to the scene shortly after.

Investigators said a 2008 Lincoln Navigator struck 59-year-old Sparling while riding his bike across the highway. Upon impact, the involved driver immediately left the scene.

Medics arrived and transported Sparling to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

At this time, Adelanto Officials are asking anyone with information about the suspect, identified as Erika Romero-Aguilar, to contact Victor Valley Officials at 760-552-6800.

Following preliminary duties, authorities also found the involved vehicle abandoned at a Pilot Truck Stop near Joshua Street in Hesperia. At this time, an active investigation into the fatal bicycle accident on US Highway 395 is currently underway.
