36-Year-Old Suspect Arrested after Fatal Collision near Hardy Road

TUCSON, AZ (August 7, 2023) – Wednesday morning, Martin Velasquez was killed in a hit-and-run crash on Oracle Road. The incident occurred around 8:20 a.m., near Hardy Road on August 2nd. Per reports, 36-year-old Rose Johnston was driving in the middle lane when she veered right and struck another car. Upon impact, Johnston fled the scene while the other vehicle was pushed into a nearby traffic pole. Medics arrived and pronounced the driver, Velasquez dead at the scene. Following preliminary duties, police arrested Johnston for hit-and-run causing death. Meanwhile, two additional passengers suffered serious injuries including one with fractured forearm and femur, the other had a fractured ribs and internal bleeding. Also, Johnston stated that that she left the scene because of shock and later called authorities.
