Suspect Arrested after Fatally Striking 17-Year-Old Boy on McMahon Drive

SACRAMENTO, CA (August 1, 2022) – Saturday, a boy was killed and Marquis Leon Johnson was arrested after a hit-and-run on Stockton Boulevard.

The incident occurred around 3:00 p.m., near McMahon Drive. Emergency crews responded to the scene shortly after, on July 23rd.

According to reports, Johnson was driving a white Toyota Rav4 at a high rate of speed. For reasons under investigation, he ran a red light and struck a woman who was attempting to make a left turn onto McMahon Drive.

After the initial impact, the Toyota veered off the road and struck three pedestrians who were walking on the sidewalk. Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics pronounced one 17-year-old boy dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, the other two pedestrians suffered severe injuries. In addition, the 83-year-old female driver of the other vehicle suffered minor injuries.

Officers say Johnson tried to escape and ran to the Lotus Casino parking lot and jumped a fence into a nearby schoolyard. He was later arrested and taken into custody.
