Moneice Newell Arrested after Stolen Car Pursuit Collision on Florence Avenue

LOS ANGELES, CA (June 27, 2022) – Early Thursday morning, Marquin Nwude was killed in a pedestrian crash on Central Avenue.

The incident happened around 12:30 a.m., in the southbound lanes of Central Avenue near Florence Avenue.

Per reports, officers began pursuing the driver of a stolen vehicle when the driver ran a red light. As a result, the vehicle struck a pedestrian who was crossing the street at the time.

Upon impact, the car dragged the victim for more than 500 feet. First responders arrived and pronounced 29-year-old Nwude dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, the suspect continued driving before colliding with three parked cars in the area.

Authorities later held the driver, 41-year-old Moneice Newell, without bail. She will be charged in connection with the stolen vehicle and the fatal incident.

At this time, an active investigation is ongoing. The Los Angeles Police Department will release additional information once available.
