56-Year-Old Sonoma Man Charged after Fleeing from Police in Santa Rosa

SANTA ROSA, CA (November 5, 2021) – Authorities arrested 56-year-old Mark Penoli after a police pursuit on Highway 12, Saturday night.

The incident started around 6:50 p.m., in the area of Montgomery Village near Mountain Hawk Drive.

Police attempted to pull over a man driving a gray Jeep Cherokee erratically in the area. However, the driver failed to stop which prompted the police to begin a pursuit.

The suspect continued heading towards Bennett Valley Road, before heading west onto Highway 12. Shortly after, the driver collided with another vehicle after running a red light through the Mountain Hawk Drive intersection.

Upon impact, the Jeep flipped on its roof and ended up skidding over 200 yards on the road. Medics transported Penoli to a local hospital with minor injuries.

The second driver was treated on scene. Although, their identity has not yet been provided.

Mark Penoli of Sonoma, was later arrested on suspicion of committing two felony counts of evading officers, and evading officers causing injury. He was then booked into the Sonoma County jail.
