A Latino man fatally shot on Nov. 14 — though he did not die for two more days — has been identified as 27-year-old Mario Mendez. The shooting occurred just after 9 p.m. at 10509 Compton Ave., right next to a middle school in Watts.

According to LAPD Criminal Gang and Homicide Detective Kerri Potter, officers received a 911 call reporting the crime at 9:15 p.m. Mendez was then transported to the nearby Saint Francis Medical Center…

… where he remained in critical condition until he was declared dead on Nov. 16. Coroner's records show he had been shot multiple times in the head.

It's being handled as being gang-related, just based on the area and the circumstance,” said Potter. “The investigators are talking with some witnesses.”

Anybody with additional information about the homicide is urged to call (213) 485-4341.
