You miss the days when L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa made headlines not for his politics but for his dating policy?

Alas, look no further than the little city to the north, San Fernando, which appears to be embroiled in a full-on, true-life telenovela, complete with a cheating mayor and a wife who appeared to confront him at a public council meeting.

Good stuff, right? The San Fernando Sun newspaper has all the juicy deets.

According to the paper it started last Monday with this strange announcement by Mayor Mario Hernandez:

I'd like to put out there, 'to squash the rumors,' that yes, I have been in a relationship with Councilwoman (Maribel) De La Torre.

And the studio audience goes wooooo. (Check out audio of the session here.)

Somewhat hilariously the public proclamation of love (or lust?) at the meeting came after the mayor declared that he has lost his business and filed for bankruptcy.

But wait, there's more.

Hizzoner's wife was in the audience. She reportedly stepped up to say:

That's why I'm here … I'm his wife…we weren't separated.

It doesn't end there. Hernandez then tried to have her forcibly removed by cops for interrupting the meeting, the Sun reports.

Councilwoman Sylvia Ballin said she was disgusted and gave the mayor's wife a hug, says the paper.

The mayor then appeared to have ended the meeting early.

We'll leave it at that. Except that this is happening with a backdrop of much dirt and alleged political hanky panky in San Fern. We'll suggest that you read the Sun for all that good stuff. Make sure to have some chocolate handy.
