Cops checking out a report of an open door at a warehouse in Van Nuys today got a little more than they expected.

Not only did they find a marijuana-growing operation, but wires protruding from a doorway spooked officers enough that they called in an LAPD bomb squad to check it out.

Turns out the threat was a dud. The weed? Not so much:

ABC Eyewitness News reported that officers discovered at least 100 plants ranging in size from little baby pot to 5-footers.

LAPD Officer Richard French couldn't confirm those facts for us, saying cops were still awaiting a search warrant so they could back inside and do a formal count.

It all started about 5:15 a.m. in the 15800 block of Stagg Street when someone reported an open door to police, he said.

Arriving officers found the weed, then the wires, resulting in a bomb-squad investigation that lasted until about 10:30 a.m., French said.

No suspects had been located.
