Leo Carrillo State Beach can produce a nice little wave. But this morning surfers were treated to more than a 1-foot swell.

A high-speed chase was happening offshore. Yes, the U.S. Coast Guard pursued what officials are calling a “drug boat” for nearly 30 minutes. You can just guess who won:

The Coast Guard caught up with the boat about five miles southwest of Leo Carrillo, Petty Officer Adam Eggers told the Weekly.

It all started about 7 a.m. when L.A. County lifeguards in the area spotted the fast-moving boat offshore and told the Coast Guard, according to the federal service.

The Coast Guard launched “assets” from Los Angeles, San Pedro and Oxnard that included a 65 Dolphin helicopter and a 45-foot response boat, officials stated.

And guess what? You can't beat a helicopter. Unless the weather is bad.

The L.A. County Sheriff's Department sent a boat out, too, and soon two suspects were in custody, according to the Coast Guard.

On-board? Twenty-six bales of “suspected” marijuana, the Coast Guard said. Eggers told us authorities hadn't weighed it yet. But we bet it was worth a lot.

If those surfers got their hands on it, that weed would be long gone.
