38-Year-old Woman Arrested after Pursuit Crash on Acequia Avenue in Visalia

VISALIA, CA (June 25, 2021) – Monday afternoon, 38-year-old Mariah Chaffin stole an ambulance and crashed into another on Noble Avenue.

According to reports, Chaffin stole an ambulance that was running at the scene of a medical aid call. Authorities stated they spotted the ambulance with its lights and sirens activated as it drove away from the intersection.

Visalia police officers attempted to pull over the stolen ambulance. However, Chaffin refused to yield which consequently resulted in a chase.

The pursuit later ended around 3:30 p.m. when Chaffin collided with a police patrol vehicle and another ambulance near Acequia Avenue and Locust Street.

In addition, the second ambulance was carrying a patient at the time of the crash.

Rescuers took one Visalia police officer to the hospital, and they are expected to fully recover.

Once released from the hospital, Mariah Chaffin will be booked for assault with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest, and possession of a stolen vehicle, according to the police.
