Car Collision near San Antonio Creek Road Left Florida Man Dead, 5 Others Hospitalized
SANTA BARBARA, CA (August 23, 2023) – Early Saturday morning, a car crash on Highway 154 left Maria Suarez Jimenez, Rosa Marie Suarez, and three other people with injuries. The collision happened around 1:24 a.m. near San Antonio Creek Road, located on the Santa Barbara side of Highway 154. Based on the initial investigation, a 2020 Nissan Altima crossed the double yellow lines while traveling west for unknown reasons. As a result, the Nissan collided head-on with a 2016 Infiniti QX60 going in the opposite lane. The first responders declared the sole occupants of the Nissan dead at the scene. At this time, he was only identified as a 22-year-old man from South Jacksonville, Florida. Meanwhile, paramedics rushed Infiniti driver, –57-year-old Maria Suarez Jimenez of Oxnard– to a hospital for major injuries. They transported all four remaining occupants of Jimenez to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital with injuries ranging from moderate to major. Later, police identified the injured passengers as Rosa Marie Suarez, Ofelia Vargas Suarez, Maria Suarez Garibay, and Jaime Jimenez Suarez. All passengers were determined to be Oxnard residents. At this time, authorities are withholding the identity of the deceased driver from Florida.
