17-Year-Old Teen Dead after ATV Crash on Putnam Way

ARBUCKLE, CA (December 14, 2021) – Saturday, a 17-year-old teen died and 24-year-old Maria Espino sustained injuries in an ATV crash.

The incident took place on a private dirt road west of Putnam Way at around 9:30 p.m., on December 4.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the teen was driving a 2021 Yamaha Raptor ATV at high speeds in foggy weather when he drifted off the road and swerved to avoid a power pole.

As a result, the teen loses control of his vehicle and collided with an almond tree in a nearby orchard. The crash ejected both the teen and Espino from the car and as per police, both did not wear helmets.

Emergency crews then transported the teen to Kaiser Permanente Vacaville Medical Center where he died from injuries.

Meanwhile, medics rushed Espino to Adventist Health/Rideout with serious injuries. Officers are uncertain at this time if drugs or alcohol played a role in the incident.

The incident is still being investigated at this time.
