Savaughn Jojuan Colon Barnes Involved in Fatal Hit-and-Run Bicycle Crash near Dillon Avenue

SAN JACINTO, CA (January 20, 2023) – Sunday night, Margarito Castro was fatally struck in a bicycle collision on State Street. The collision happened on December 4th, at around 8:00 p.m., at the intersection of State Street and Dillon Avenue. According to reports, Castro was stopped at the center median while waiting to cross Dillon Street. There, a Hyundai, driven by Savaughn Jojuan Colon Barnes, approached at high speed and struck the bicyclist. Barnes then fled the scene without rendering aid to the victim. First responders to the crash pronounced 31-year-old Margarito Castro, of San Jacinto, dead at the scene. Meanwhile, witnesses to the collision informed police about Hyundai’s plate number. Using this information, police were able to trace the vehicle to an apartment building on the 1900 block of Acacia Avenue. Shortly after, they arrested 21-year-old Savaughn Jojuan Colon Barnes of Hemet on charges of voluntary manslaughter and hit-and-run resulting in death. Following the collision, Margarito Castro’s friends and family created a GoFundMe page to help support the costs of his funeral.
