Male Driver Arrested for Second-Degree Murder after Fatal Corona Crash

CORONA, CA (April 15, 2021) – Tuesday morning, 25-year-old Marcos Calderon was arrested after a fatal car racing accident on 91 Freeway.

The deadly crash took place on the eastbound side of the highway, at 12:30 a.m, on April 6. Emergency crews arrived shortly after being dispatched to the scene.

Two cars were speeding on the highway, going more than 100 mph. Per reports, Calderon was driving a Nissan Altima, while an unidentified Corona resident was driving a BMW 550.

For reasons not yet known, both the Nissan and the BMW veered off the highway near Buchanan Street.

Shortly after, Calderon’s car came to a stop in a nearby parking lot. Meanwhile, the other driver collided with a tree and as a result, the vehicle burst into flames.

Due to the impact of the crash, the Corona man died at the scene. His identity has not yet been given. Meanwhile, Marcos Calderon only sustained minor injuries.

Calderon was later arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while drunk, engaging in a speed contest that resulted in death, and DUI that resulted in death.
