That suspect we told you about who was arrested for allegedly attempting to hire homeless people in Santa Monica to murder someone turned out to be a former Food Network chef.

Juan-Carlos Cruz had hosted the network's Calorie Commando program, a show focused on diet-conscious recipes. Santa Monica police say he approached homeless people in the city and allegedly asked them to commit a murder. Authorities would not identify the prospective victim.

More than one homeless person approached Santa Monica police Homeless Liason Program workers on May 7 and reported the alleged solicitation, Sgt. Jay Trisler said.

Cruz was subsequently tracked down in Los Angeles and arrested on suspicion of solicitation to commit murder, Trisler said. He was being held in lieu of $5 million bail.
