Remember when we told you about that 5-year-old who had his gold chain ripped off his neck downtown in a mugging that was caught on tape? Cops say they have arrested a suspect in three-week-old case.

German Palma, 18, was arrested this week on suspicion of robbery, Los Angeles police announced Friday. He was being held in lieu of $50,000 bail and was scheduled to appear in court Feb. 11. It's not clear if detectives' distribution of surveillance video that captured the snatching helped them track down the suspect.

The robbery happened as the boy and his father came out of a restaurant near 53rd and Main streets in South Los Angeles on the afternoon of Jan. 4. A suspect rolled up on a bicycle and swept down on the boy, yanking the chain so hard that the child was temporarily lifted off the ground.

Normally a chain snatching would be a ho-hum crime for the Los Angeles Police Department, but the boy's age and the suspect's brazen disrespect seemed to put the department on a warpath for an arrest.
