Back in the 1990s, a wave of riot-wary Angelenos moved to the Pacific Northwest, sparking a backlash against Southern Californians in the otherwise laid-back region.

Today it's happening again.

Los Angeles residents looking to escape the least affordable rental market in the nation have invaded Oregon.

Some Oregonians are not happy.

U.S. Census figures show that California has contributed the most state-to-state newcomers — 30,500 — to Oregon in 2014. About the same time, home prices and rents have been on the increase in the Beaver State.

The housing crisis is like a disease we bring with us wherever we go.

One man is trying to help, starting with his own family. Daniel Bullington moved to Oregon from Southern California 18 months ago but has now started a crowdfunding effort to underwrite his way back home.

The 29-year-old who lives in West Linn, Oregon, sought “greener pastures” when he moved there, he told The Oregonian. He and his wife had a daughter while there.

But he says he feels unwelcome.

“I am raising money to get a few Californians out of Oregon,” Bullington wrote on the GoFundMe page. “Oregon is a beautiful state but it's clearly apparent that Oregonians are not keen on Californians. Donate now and you can eliminate two aggressive drivers, two less people in line at the screen door and one home in the rental market.”

His appeal borrows from Donald Trump's (and Ronald Reagan's) “Make America Great Again” campaign slogan.

“Donate now and help make Oregon green again,” Bullington stated.

His goal is $3,500, which he says he would use to hire movers. Help bring Bullington and his family home from the land of mold. We'll find room for them.
