In the wake of a debate about whether or not medical marijuana dispensaries attract crime in places like Los Angeles, Long Beach police are reporting a man was shot in an attack that might have been connected to a pot shop there.

The shooting happened Monday shortly after 9 p.m. in an alley in the 5700 block of Campo Walk in the Naples area of Long Beach, police Lt. Paul LeBaron said. The victim, who was attacked while sitting in a car, sustained non-life threatening injuries, LeBaron said.

The car crashed into a fence, according to reports from the scene. The dispensary is nearby, above a beauty salon. A videographer reporting on the crime states that police were hoping to see security video from the pot shop.
